UPHOLDING & PROMOTING OUR CULTURE GOES BEYOND JUST WEARING AFRICAN PRINTS -; GEORGE OPARE ADDO SHARES ON THE PRESIDENT’S COMMENT ON LEGALIZING HOMOSEXUALITY
The Ghanaian Society growing gradually through modernization
can never throw away its norms and values running after westernization. The
thoughts of the President of our beloved country proposing a solution to have
Homosexuals legalize their practices in our country is baffling. Where did he
place the Ghanaian values? Did he leave them in his African print shirts as he
wore a suit and tie for his interview?
My focus and utmost concern remains the youth when issues of
this sort carrying a national weight springs up. Homosexuality, looking at the
present day Ghanaian society when encouraged and legalized will see most of the
persons involved in it being the youth and for this reason the president’s
comments aches me the more. We are indigenes of a country built on the
foundations of our strong and beautiful culture and values.
Prez Akufo Addo |
We grew knowing
that the right way to live as Ghanaians promoting the continuity of our race is
by building a family beginning with marrying the opposite sex. Our youth and
future leaders must grow knowing same.
In this day and time where most of our young ones are
drifting away from the good values of our great country, there is a serious
need to keep teaching them the good Ghanaian ways and homosexuality is never
part of and can never be part of our good ways.
*If the President says
"it is bound to happen", we cancel it in the name of Jesus!*_ The
youth must continue to uphold our culture, it is who we are and we do not
encourage homosexuality. What we teach our young ones today determines the
Ghana we will leave behind. Are we to leave our youth with our beautiful
cultural values and practices or some western culture which is not Ghanaian in
any way?
Hon George Opare Addo, former Municipal Chief Executive [MCE] |
The dynamic nature of culture is not a justification for the
adoption of practices that our society deems negative. Our country is already
faced with serious challenges spanning across our health and safety as citizens
and cannot add to these problems. From every sector of the argument, the debate
on legalizing homosexuality in Ghana is lost, thus from the continual existence
of humanity, the health of citizens, the promotion of culture, and to the
religious beliefs of our people.
We desire solutions to the worrisome free SHS problems for
our students, the lawlessness taking over our dear country, we require
permanent solutions to the avoidable disasters stealing our joy and to save our
citizens who travel to seek greener pastures from suffering like those in Libya
and not solutions for legalizing homosexuality.
Former presidents; John Agyekum Kuffuor, late Prof. Evans
Atta Mills and John Dramani Mahama proved themselves firm and frank leaders of
this great country by upholding our culture of not encouraging homosexuality.
This was a perfect opportunity for the President to prove his highly hyped aim
of “Africa Beyond Aid" before the western world and on international news
but he failed. It isn't enough to just wear our prints, our values matter more
to us.
*Ghana deserves better!*
GEORGE OPARE ADDO
